Ellen Doss-Burton is a fine artist based in North Carolina that primarily works through painting and photography. As a survivor of a life-threatening, traumatic event as a young child, she found refuge in creativity to alchemize her experiences. It is her belief that from the worst imaginable realities can the greatest and most abundant gifts come flowing. It is in the darkest moments in life that we can find a magnitude of light within. Ellen’s work focuses on spiritual (re)connection through elements of nature, sacred geometry, and universal energy. The unification of dichotomies and dualistic forces in the universe can be seen in examples from nature as the structures of our reality work cohesively for the purpose of renewal and continuity. Her goal as an artist is to illuminate the eternal energies that drive the forces of nature through time and space and remind us of both our power and fragility. Her intention is to encourage deeper appreciation for our planetary home and expand collective perspective on the relationship between Earth and the human experience.
Ellen is currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Art History. She has worked for the university as both a studio assistant and an academic preceptor in Art Appreciation. During the summer of 2024, she studied art and art history in Italy through the university which tremendously influenced her creative practice. Ellen is a Spring 2025 graduate of UNC Charlotte and plans to continue working and traveling after graduation in hopes of building experience that will strengthen her future teaching career. The first-ever public debut of her artwork will take place in April 2025 in the Rowe Galleries on the campus of UNC Charlotte exhibiting her undergraduate thesis work.
Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ellen currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, Ross, their dog Bodhi, and two cats, Lucy and Juniper. When not making art, Ellen can be found dancing with hula hoops, immersed in nature, practicing yoga, or traveling to new places.
